The short version: Linger is free for 14 days, then €4.99 a month, and you can cancel anytime. One license works on one computer. Use it to keep what’s been sent to you, and respect other people’s privacy. Linger isn’t an official Instagram product and uses Instagram’s private interface, so Instagram could restrict your account: use it at your own risk. The details are below.
Who we are
These terms are an agreement between you and We Are Mortensen S.L., a company based in Spain (“we”, “us”). You can contact us at hello@getlinger.com. By installing or using Linger, you accept these terms.
What Linger is
Linger is a desktop app for Mac that lets you read your Instagram direct messages on your computer and save the photos, videos and voice messages in them. It runs on your Mac and connects to Instagram directly from there. How we handle data is explained in our privacy policy.
Free trial and subscription
- Trial. Linger is free for 14 days from the first time you open it. The trial needs no account, no email and no card.
- Subscription. After the trial, Linger costs €4.99 a month. You buy it through Stripe, from the app or from the website. After paying, you get a license key to paste into the app.
- Renewal and cancellation. The subscription renews every month until you cancel it. You can cancel anytime in the app under Settings → License → Manage subscription, or at https://billing.stripe.com/p/login/fZucN67Y1ePJ7wjdo05AQ00.
- One license, one computer. Each license works on one computer at a time. To move it to another computer, deactivate it first in Settings on the old one.
- Updates. Linger updates itself automatically, inside the app.
Your right of withdrawal (EU consumers)
If you’re a consumer in the European Union, you may have a legal right to withdraw from a purchase made online within 14 days. For digital content and services that start right away, that right can end once you’ve agreed to start using them. Whatever applies to you under the law of your country, we respect it. Using Linger responsibly
- Linger is for keeping what’s been sent to you: photos, videos and messages in your own conversations.
- Respect other people’s privacy. Saving or sharing someone’s photos or videos without their consent can be illegal, depending on where you live.
- Don’t use Linger to harass anyone or for any unlawful purpose.
- You’re responsible for how you use what you save.
Linger and Instagram
Linger is not in any way affiliated with nor endorsed by Instagram (Meta) or any of its subsidiaries. Instagram is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc.
Please read this before you use it:
- Linger uses Instagram’s private interface, not an official API. That is against Instagram’s terms of use.
- Instagram may ask you to verify your account, or restrict or block it.
- You use Linger with your Instagram account at your own risk. We’re not responsible for any action Instagram takes on your account.
- Instagram changes often. A change on its side can stop some features from working until we update Linger.
No warranty
We work hard to make Linger reliable, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We can’t promise that it will always work, work without errors, or keep working with Instagram.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, accounts or content, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for Linger in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when Linger or the law changes. We’ll publish the new version on this page with a new date. If a change is significant, we’ll make it clear on the website before it applies. If you don’t agree with the new terms, you can cancel your subscription.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you’re a consumer, this doesn’t take away the protection you get from the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
